If you are trying to sort out POE currency plans for Phrecia, the two builds that keep coming up are Explosive Arrow Ballista and Servant of Arakaali. They live in very different lanes, but that is part of the appeal. One is a cheap, steady league starter. The other is more of a high-level snapshot, the sort of character you study when you want to see how far the event systems can be pushed without chasing a perfect meta setup.

Explosive Arrow Ballista and why it feels easy to trust

The Ancestral Commander version of Explosive Arrow Ballista is the kind of build that clicks fast. You move, you drop ballistas, and they do the work. There is not much fuss. In Phrecia, that matters more than people admit, because a lot of players just want something that gets them into T16 maps without a gear spiral. This one does that. It also has enough armour, life, evasion, and charge-based mitigation to stop small mistakes from turning into dead maps.

Damage comes from gem levels, attack speed, fire scaling, and a few specific synergies that you really do not want to miss. Quill Rain is the usual weapon of choice, and Skirmish helps a lot by giving another totem. The build also leans on Point Blank, Elemental Overload, and the Bow Mastery that turns projectile speed into damage. That last bit is easy to overlook. So is the advice about avoiding Pierce. If your quiver or setup adds pierce, the explosions stop behaving the way they should, and the whole thing feels off.

      Levelling without making it awkward

The campaign path is pretty old-school at heart. Start with Ground Slam, then Sunder, then swap into Explosive Arrow Ballista after the first Lab around level 35. That transition is smoother than it sounds if you keep upgrading your two-handed weapon and do not get distracted by trying to force the final setup too early. The recommended main link is simple, and early maps are where Combustion starts to matter more than Lesser Multiple Projectiles. You can feel the shift once the build comes online.

What the Servant of Arakaali snapshot actually shows

The Servant of Arakaali character is less of a step-by-step guide and more of a reference point. It is level 94, uses Breachlord Bloodline, and sits on a defensive frame built around block, armour, energy shield, and Divine Shield. The ascendancy kit is very distinctive too. You get free Envy, free Aspect of the Spider, stronger webs, and a mark package that gives the character a strange mix of pressure and utility. It is not trying to be flashy. It is trying to stay alive while its layers keep working.

That snapshot also gives a nice look at how Phrecia can bend a character away from a normal PoE template. You see Poisonous Concoction, Determination, Malevolence, Haste, Tempest Shield, Whirling Blades, Molten Shell, and the usual support shell around minions and offerings. It is messy in a good way. The kind of setup you only really appreciate once you’ve played enough to know that a build does not need one giant number to feel solid.

If you want a practical starter, Explosive Arrow Ballista is the safer bet. If you want a study in layered defence and weird Phrecia identity, Servant of Arakaali is the better read, and if you’re shopping around for cheap POE currency, both examples make it clear that good planning still matters more than brute force spending. That is probably the main lesson here: in Phrecia, the builds that feel best are usually the ones that know exactly what they are trying to do, and do not waste time pretending otherwise.

Kick off PoE1 Phrecia the easy way with u4gm. From cheap Explosive Arrow Ballista starts to sturdy Servant of Arakaali setups, you can save time, skip the slog, and stay focused on the fun.
